• Project Date: Spring 2020

In Spring 2020, I will be developing a new contemporary dance work of four dancers that explores themes and personal stories promoting the importance of positive mental health and wellbeing. The project is in collaboration with the Hertfordshire Library Service, Hertford Theatre, East Herts County Council and will be performed as part of the Hertfordshire Year of Culture 2020.

The dance work will be inspired from feedback and discussion from socially isolated Library and community tea and coffee mornings. The ideas and concepts included within the project will be generated during a 5-day research and development residency at Hertford Theatre and 1 day of rehearsal within a Library sites. The 5-day residency will culminate in a pilot studio based performance to engage library staff, funding partners and participants in sharing their feedback and thoughts on the themes and message of the dance. The dance will be performed across four East Herts Libraries to showcase the Libraries’ strategy for tackling isolation. By bringing dance and culture into these public spaces, we aim to reach out to new audiences, including isolated individuals, and generate positive conversations to promote East Herts libraries as community hubs. Each performance will be unique and will take place in a range of indoor, outdoor and public spaces in Hertford, Ware, Buntingford and Bishops Stortford town and village libraries.
